2020 Running Goal - Update #26

Wow, what a whirlwind last ten days. Lots to talk about. Okay, I'm done. See you next time.

Har har. Anyhoo, I am now over 900 miles done in the year. Less than 600 to go. I've been trying to run hard and get at least 7 miles each day, and I was able to accomplish that 7 out of the last 10 days.

One interesting stat I've been trying to increase is the distance I can run in one hour. I've been tantalizingly close to getting 7.5 miles, but always falling short, with one notable run finishing at 7.49 miles back in June. But with determination, I've been able to get a new PR twice in the last nine days. On July 10th, I ended up running 7.56 miles with a magical and weirdly appropriate 7:56 minute/mile pace. But then on July 13th, I blew that out of the water and finished with 7.70 miles in one hour. That is literally running 7.7 mph for an hour. I was ecstatic but wiped out at the end. That distance comes out to be a 7:47 minute/mile pace for an hour. It was pretty grueling.

July 14th was nothing but horrible weather, rain, and storms. So, with no chance to run outside, I was forced to improvise. A quick internet search told me I needed about twenty laps around a high school basketball court to get one mile. So, as boring as it sounds, I was aiming for 140 laps in an hour to get to my seven miles. But I ended up finishing with 125 laps and 6.25 miles. And my knees paid for it the following day. Very stiff.

July is a little more than halfway over. I am at 118.54 miles so far. This is my monster month. This is the month I am aiming for over 200 miles but shooting for 217 miles with a little luck (31 days x 7 miles/day).

I just have to make my body hang tough for 14 more days. I keep telling myself when July is over, I will have built up enough of a mileage buffer that I can take some days off in early August to recuperate both physically and mentally. Two more weeks...
