2020 Running Goal - Update #11

Well, I am carefully optimistic that today was the last cold day for a while. According to the weather reports, the next week's temps should be in the low 40s. I will take it. I am ready for it. I am delighted and hopeful that warm weather is finally on the horizon and stays for a long time. It probably doesn't need to be said, but I'll say it again, these cold, windy, gray, cloudy days just plain blow.

I am over 208 miles for the year now at the end of February. I should be at 246 miles (4.10 miles x 60 days) to be on pace, so that puts me at 37.71 miles behind. I really think February is the hardest month to run due to the unpredictable weather and temperatures, at least when I think back to the last few years of serious running. With that month behind me, I feel confident that I can start eating away at that mileage deficit. Overall, my body feels pretty good right now.

2020 Running Goal - Update #10

Whoops, I haven't posted in a while. I think I got distracted by some strange, sunny days that appeared out of nowhere. One day it was 25 below and then seemingly it was in the low 40s a few days later. Those warm days were a wonderful harbinger of spring and I can't wait till more arrive. Right now, my body is feeling pretty good. I ran an 8.26 miler on Sunday. I'm trying to make up for lost miles. Today is day 56, so I should be at 229.60 miles, so I am 34.73 miles behind. I still need to run today, so I should be about 30 miles behind at the end of the day, which, I guess, isn't the end of the world.

2020 Running Goal - Update #9

I skipped running three weekdays in a row due to extremely cold weather, so that was a big bummer. I tried to lessen the blow over the weekend by running a 10K on Saturday and 4.32 miles on Sunday. But the reality is I am farther behind than I wanted to be at this point. With 47 days passed in 2020 already, my perfect mileage would be 192.70. So, I have a deficit of 22.62 miles at this point. One bright side is the weather is supposed to be in the 30s or 40s this next weekend, so maybe I'll be able to run longer.

2020 Running Goal - Update #8

I skipped running yesterday. The snowy wind was blowing sideways and temps were horrible with the wind chill. So, now that leaves me two days behind schedule for February. This month always gives me problems. It is probably the worst month in Wisconsin. And the next few days don't look any better. Sometimes you just have to throw your hands up, accept fate, and look toward the future. I know warmer days are ahead, but it is tough to wait this cold season out when I can see that I'm falling behind with mileage. I should be at 180.40 miles (4.10 miles x 44 days), but I only have 159.55. That means I have a deficit of 20.85 miles. Argh.

2020 Running Goal - Update #7

So far, February is not going great. Not horrible, but not great. I took one day off to rest my right foot, which had developed a sharp pain between my big toe and second toe. I believe that was caused by the hard, icy ground and various rocks on my running loop. It has healed up for now. But then yesterday, I had zero energy, both my hips hurt, and I struggled to get about 2.5 miles before quitting. That kinda stuff is frustrating because I want to get the mileage done, but physically, it wasn't going to happen. I hope this month gets better, but again, the cold, dreary days and afternoon runs after work are getting old, old, old. I have to run today yet.

2020 Running Goal - Update #6

All right, January 2020 is officially in the books, and I'm happy with my current mileage totals. In fact, I ran my most miles ever in a January month with about 15 miles more than my previous PR. I'm off to a pretty good start here, considering the yucky weather I have to deal with. I missed a total of four running days which means I have to make up 16.4 miles over the rest of the year. With 31 days in January, I should be at 127.10 miles. I ended up with 118.66, so that's only a deficit of 8.44 miles. Most of my January running days, I did a little more than the 4.1 miles and four of those days I did a 10K, so those little extras all added up to help chip away at my overall mileage goal. So, I guess, we'll see what February brings. I have to go outside and run today yet.
